Flamingo Preservation Efforts

Making a Difference

The West Indian Flamingo, also known as the Caribbean Flamingo, is known for its vibrant pink plumage and elegant stature. In the 1950’s, the majestic bird was aggressively hunted, and on the brink of extinction. The Bahamas National Trust has worked for over 60 years to rebound the birds’ populations, including the development of protected flamingo colonies, which has resulted in the Flamingo’s on-going preservation.
